Glamping. What is it?

glamping

Nowadays more and more often we hear the term glamping. But what is it exactly? It is an abbreviation of the terms ''glam'' (glamorous) and ''camping'' and refers to the luxury version of traditional camping, organized or unorganized camping in nature - as a term it first appeared in England in 2005 (in 2016 it was included in the English dictionary).

As a trend, glamping has been very popular in the last decade, although its roots can be traced back to the early 12th century in Mongolia, with various tribes living for long periods of time in tents and huts.

Much later, at the beginning of the 20th century, wealthy Europeans and Americans, unwilling to give up the comforts and luxury of their homes, went on safari in Africa, living in luxury tents equipped with all the comforts they had home.

Today, glamping is offered almost everywhere, from the beaches of Qatar to Kenya, Bolivia and the Scandinavian countries. As a matter of fact Booking now advertises the 10 best destinations for this kind of holiday. It can be a "luxury" tent, a caravan, a well-tended hut or a dome-style structure. Glamping sites can be found in various natural settings, from forests and mountains to beaches and deserts, offering guests the chance to enjoy the outdoors without sacrificing comfort.

But what are exactly the amenities of such an accommodation, where prices for a night can even reach 2,000 euros? Those accommodations are usually equipped with high-end furniture, king-size bed, electricity, heating and cooling, flooring, bathtub, kitchen, linen sheets, expensive lamps, porcelain tableware, etc.
